Syncing Devices via ReadiSync

ReadiSync is a mobile app for tablets and phones that allows authorized devices to sync passively on the Readi platform. This article is designed to help you understand how both passive (automatic) syncing and manually-initiated syncing work via ReadiSync.

Passive (Automatic) Syncing

ReadiSync automatically syncs devices within a radius of < 10 meters from the tablet or smartphone running ReadiSync (the "sync station").

No action is required by the user of ReadiSync for this syncing to occur – the only requirements are:

  • ReadiSync is connected to the internet and has Bluetooth turned on.

  • ReadiSync remains in the foreground on the phone or tablet. (This requirement may be removed in the future).

ReadiSync automatically initiates a sync as soon as possible for any device that is detected within range of the sync station – assuming that device hasn't already synced at least once within your organization's Syncing Interval.

  • For example, if your organization's Syncing Interval is set at 8 hours, an unsynced device will be queued to sync immediately upon detection by ReadiSync. After a successful sync, it will not sync again with the ReadiSync tablet until 8 hours have elapsed (or a manual sync is initiated).

  • The default Syncing Interval is 8 hours and can be viewed by tapping the "Settings" icon in the top right of ReadiSync. Talk to your account manager if you would like your organization to have a different syncing interval.

Syncing Multiple Devices – Timing Expectations

The number of Bluetooth connections a Sync Station can handle simultaneously is limited. Therefore, to manage a load of multiple devices in range simultaneously, some devices may be placed in a syncing queue until the sync station has capacity.

This process will be managed automatically by ReadiSync – no action is required for queueing and syncing to occur.

The actively syncing device will display an animating progress circle on its row.

Depending on the volume of unsynced data on a device, syncs may take between 10 and 30 seconds per device. For example, if there are 50 unsynced devices in range simultaneously, it might take 10 minutes or more to sync all devices.

Manually Initiating Syncing

ReadiSync is principally designed with passive (automatic) syncing in mind, to eliminate the need for a human administrator to perform syncing actions.

However, it is possible that an administrator may wish to manually initiate a sync of a particular ReadiWatch device. For example, there may be a particular ReadiWatch that has already synced within the Syncing Interval, but for whatever reason another sync is desired.

Here are the steps for manual syncing:

  1. Ensure the device you wish to sync is within range of the sync station. Devices within range will display a blue "three dots" icon on their row.

  2. Tap the blue "three dots" icon for the device you wish to sync.

  3. From the dropdown menu, tap "Sync" to initiate the synchronization process.

Remember that if other syncs are currently in progress, your manual sync may take a short while to commence.
