Background Sync

Updated over a week ago

We're excited to introduce Background Sync to ReadiOne, a new feature that helps keep your paired ReadiWatch or ReadiBand in sync, even when the ReadiOne application is running quietly in the background. That means:

  • Automatic syncing before and during your shifts.

  • Greater confidence that your sleep and ReadiScore data is always current.

If you'd like to learn more about passive and manual syncing options available while actively using the app, see our help article on those syncing methods here:

How Background Sync Works

Background Sync is designed to be smart and reliable. Once enabled, the app will automatically trigger syncs at specific times depending on your schedule and recent activity.

Here is when you can expect background sync to run:

  • Ongoing Shift

    • If you're currently working a shift and haven't synced in the last 2 hours before it started, syncing begins immediately.

  • Upcoming Shift (next 24 hours)

    • A sync attempt begins 45 minutes before your next shift starts.

  • After a Night Shift (ended in the past 8 hours, before 8 PM)

    • If you worked a night shift (starting between 5 PM and 3 AM) that ended recently, syncing happens later that day between 8 PM - 10 PM.

  • Morning Sync (no shift, no recent sync)

    • If it's earlier than 10 AM and you haven't synced in the past 8 hours, syncing runs between 10 AM - 12 PM.

  • Daily Sync (later than 10 AM)

    • If none of the above conditions apply, syncing is scheduled for 10 AM - 12 PM the next day.

Note: Background sync attempts are triggered by push notifications. If the first attempt doesn't succeed, additional push notifications are sent during your sync window to give the app more chances to sync. This is why notification permission must be granted to ReadiOne.

What's Needed for Background Sync

For Background Sync to work smoothly, the following conditions must be met:

  1. Enable the Background Sync toggle

    1. Turn it on during device pairing, or later in Settings > Device > Background Sync

  2. Keep ReadiOne open in the background

    1. Do not force-close the app (swiping it away).

    2. The app must remain open in the background for syncing to work.

  3. Allow ReadiOne to run in the background (Android only)

    1. Android phones sometimes restrict apps from running in the background, especially when Battery Saver is enabled.

    2. ReadiOne will show a banner prompting you to adjust this setting.

      1. When you tap Settings, your device will show a message like "Let app always run in background?" > choose Allow.

  4. Allow Notifications

    1. Background Sync is triggered by push notifications.

    2. Notifications must be enabled for ReadiOne. If they are blocked, Background Sync cannot run.

  5. Keep Bluetooth turned on and grant permission

    1. Bluetooth must be enabled on your device.

    2. Bluetooth permission must also be granted to ReadiOne. Without this, the app cannot connect to your device.

  6. Stay connected to the Internet

    1. Background Sync requires a network connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data) to complete successfully.
